The Hem

From “All The King’s Men: A Poetic Treatise On Healing” by Jamie Lewis.

The Hem: a watercolor
I am tired of fighting shame
Its shadow chases me
I reach my hand to touch Him
And just as I feel the hem of His garment-
A single thread within my grasp
Shame rears its ugly head again
I pull back in dread
Unholy cannot touch Holy
Impure cannot dwell with pure
I cover myself with costumes of my own making
And hide from your great presence

I hear your voice falling on my ear:
“My covenant is greater than that-Better
My blood speaks a better word
In days of old-unclean made clean impure
Yet my blood runs from the throne of God
A scarlet thread of redemption, hope
Grace and Mercy proclaim freedom from the curse
Everything Changes
Unclean touched by clean-spotless
Darkness is dispelled by light
Unholy becomes holy in my presence
Impure made pure
Righteousness and Peace kiss one another

So, do not shrink back
Do not hide
Press in! Press in!
Seek me and you SHALL find me.
No longer broken-Whole
No longer captive-Free
No longer bruised-Healed
Today is the Day of the Lord’s Favor.
Today
While it is called today Hear my voice
Soften your heart
Unreserved truth
Incorruptible character
A child of THE LIGHT
