The Footprint of an Influencer

Some people run across your mind, leaving indelible footprints imprinted upon your heart. These footprints become a part of you and who you believe you are. They change you forever, stirring within you memories and emotions which cannot and will not be contained. The memories cascade upon our lives and upon the lives of others, creating even more footprints-echoes of the person that came before.

Though it is often difficult to say in the present what history will recount of us in the future, the influence we have upon another (and make no mistake, each of us has some form of influence upon another) does not stop with one, but flows throughout the pages of history and becomes our future. The question then, is this:

What influence are you leaving upon other’s minds and hearts?

“Influencer” is a buzz word of the current generation. I’ll be honest, at first I hated the word. The people I often saw the media labeling as an influencer just hit me wrong. These were people I had no desire to influence my life. Then I began to hear the word in Christian circles. I’ve lived enough years to know when something gets under my skin like a sticker under my fingernail I need to pray about it, figure out the reason it bothers me so much, and pay attention to what God wants me to learn.

So, what is influence? It is the capacity or power of persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, etc., of others: (Dictionary.com)

Well, I thought, isn’t this the very thing Christ has called us to? To be a compelling force, to produce effects on the actions, behavior, and opinion of others as we lead by example to be a Christ follower and true disciple, behaving like Him, speaking like Him, doing the things He did, saying the things He said. After all, according to I John 4:17 “By living in God, love has been brought to its full expression in us so that we may fearlessly face the day of judgment, because all that Jesus now is, so are we in this world.” TPT

“…all that Jesus now is, so are we in this world.”

I John 4:17b TPT

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

Matthew 28:19

WHY?

Well. because just like Jesus we are called to: break the chains of wickedness, to untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and tear off every yoke? …to share our bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your home, to clothe the naked when we see him, and not to turn away from our own flesh and blood? Isaiah 58:6,7

These are some pretty hard words. They are tough for me to hear. They may be tough for you to hear. These are words requiring action. Words requiring sacrifice and obedience. Words requiring us to move beyond our fear, beyond the comforts or our personal border zones. We can choose to ignore these words. We can choose to do nothing. Yet, we can also choose to do that which is uncomfortable.

Then, according to Isaiah,

your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry out, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger and malicious talk, and if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light will go forth in the darkness, and your night will be like noonday. The LORD will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-scorched land and strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will restore the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of the Streets of Dwelling.”

Isaiah 58:6-12
